Recommended Treatment Protocol for coral tissue necrosis or bleaching

Common Signs of Coral Infected with RTN Parasites and STN Parasites

  1. Discoloration – loss of normal coloration in part or the whole coral, including bleaching of tissue or darkening of the coral tissue or green/brown pigmented skeleton.
  2. Closed or Retracted Polyps – prolonged polyp retraction.
  3. Tissue Loss – brown jelly, STN, or RTN.
  4. Melting tissue – soft coral tissue melting

Recommended Protocol for Treatment of Infected Coral and Saltwater System.

  1. Remove infected coral from your system.
  2. Dip coral with Prime Coral STOP RTN
  3. Place dipped corals into quarantine tank.
  4. Use 50-100 micron filter socks on all drain on your main system and quarantine tank to capture free swimming parasites. Change filter socks before they overflow.
  5. Add powerheads to increase in-tank flow in main system and quarantine system.
  6. Completely remove dead coral skeleton.
  7. Use Prime Coral epoxy and super-glue gel to completely cover any skeleton that cannot be removed.
  8. Treat quarantine tank (without fish) with Prime Coral Prevent RTN PRO (professional strength) in-tank treatment following directions.
  9. Monitor health of corals closely
  10. Repeat Prime Coral STOP RTN coral dip every 2 days. Maximum of 4 treatments.
  11. Treat your main system with Prime Coral Prevent RTN
  12. Return coral to systems when signs of infection have resolved.
  13. Not all infected corals will survive treatment.
  14. Corals with advance infection may not survive treatment.

Treat early BEFORE significant tissue loss. The longer you wait the less coral saved. 

 Prime Coral STOP RTN and Prime Coral Prevent RTN are meant to be used together.

Multiple treatments of both Prime Coral STOP RTN and Prime Coral Prevent RTN are necessary to cure infected corals and purify a saltwater system. 

Prime Coral Prevent RTN only eliminates microscopic RTN parasites that are free swimming, within corals, and on infected corals. It is not effective against acropora eating flatworms, montipora eating nudibranchs, or black bugs.

Prime Coral STOP RTN eliminates flatworms, acropora eating flatworms, montipora eating nudibranchs, black bugs, and other pests.

Boosting Prime Coral Prevent RTN Treatment results in dramatically better elimination of  RTN parasite philaster from reef systems. 

March 8th 2019, Prime Coral Labs announces successful testing of a new in-tank dosing strategy results in dramatically better treatment of philaster in reef systems. By adding two booster doses of Prime Coral Prevent RTN, one in 2 hours after the initial dose has  synergistic effect on eliminating RTN parasite philaster from the water column.  RTN parasites use the water column to find and infect new corals. With the booster doses during repeated trials at Prime Coral Labs, the philaster protozoan coral parasite was successfully removed from the water column of the reef system with initial dose followed by booster doses by 98%. Each treatment with in-tank Prime Coral Prevent RTN resulted in 98% successful clearance of the RTN parasites in the water column. Boosting schedule recommended is as follows: 
Treatment 1 (day 1): initial dose per Prime Coral Prevent RTN directions. 
Treatment 2 (day 3): initial dose per Prime Coral Prevent RTN directions. 1 hour after starting treatment, add 10% of the initial treatment dose.
Treatment 3 (day 5):  initial dose per Prime Coral Prevent RTN directions. 1 hour after starting treatment, add 10% of the initial treatment dose. 2 hours after starting the initial dose, add another 10% of initial treatment dose.
Treatment 4 (day 7): initial dose per Prime Coral Prevent RTN directions. 1 hour after starting treatment, add 20% of the initial treatment dose. 2 hours after starting the initial dose, add another 10% of initial treatment dose.
Treatment 5 (day 9): initial dose per Prime Coral Prevent RTN directions. 1 hour after starting treatment, add 20% of the initial treatment dose. 2 hours after starting the initial dose, add another 20% of initial treatment dose.
Treatment 6 (day 11): initial dose per Prime Coral Prevent RTN directions. 1 hour after starting treatment, add 20% of the initial treatment dose. 2 hours after starting the initial dose, add another 20% of initial treatment dose.
Treatment 7 (day 13): initial dose per Prime Coral Prevent RTN directions. 1 hour after starting treatment, add 20% of the initial treatment dose. 2 hours after starting the initial dose, add another 20% of initial treatment dose.
*All treatments should be dripped in the sump. Boosted doses should be added within 5 minutes to the sump
